Realme hikes prices of many phones due to components shortage

Of late, smartphone manufacturers due to the components shortage are increasing the cost of their offerings in India. One of the brands that have increased the cost of its smartphones is Realme. As per a Twitter thread from Abhishek Yadav, a dozen of smartphones including Realme 8 5G, Realme C21and Realme C25s have witnessed the price hikes.

Pricing-wise, the C11, 2021 model now retails for Rs 7,299 up from Rs 300 for the 2+32GB variant. The 4+64GB variant of the Realme C11 2021 model now retails for Rs 8,799 up from Rs 300. Next up, the Realme C21 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage now retails for Rs 8,999 up to Rs 500. The 4GB variant with 64GB of storage retails for Rs 9,999 up another Rs 500.

Finally, the C25s, with the MediaTek Helio G85 will retail for Rs 10,99 for the 4GB RAM 64GB storage variant, up to Rs 500. The 4GB+128GB variant also gets a Rs 500 hike to Rs 11,999.

The Realme 8 series to has got a new price hike, with the 4G variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage now priced at Rs 16,999, up a whopping Rs 1000. This is also applicable for the 8GB variant with 128GB of storage, which now retails for Rs 17,999, another Rs 1000 up from the original launch cost.

The 5G variant is also getting a price hike, with the 4GB variant with 64GB of storage set to retail for Rs 15,499, whilst the variants with 4GB of RAM and 128 storage and 8GB of RAM will now retail for Rs 16,4999 and Rs 18,499, respectively.

This is nothing new, and, this is not the first instance of price hikes in India. This comes as the shortage of components and semiconductors grows worse day by day due to the global pandemic, with brands like Samsung, Redmi, Micromax hiking the retail prices of their offerings in the country. In case you did not know, Redmi recently raised the price of its Redmi Note 10, which is the company’s budget segment leader, with the latest hike being of Rs 500, making the overall hike of Rs 2000, up from Rs 12,000 at launch to Rs 14,000 which is quite major when it comes to a budget handset.
