OnePlus reportedly offering a free battery replacement for OnePlus 3, 5 and 6 series phones

OnePlus India has good news for some of the old OnePlus mobile users in India. As per a Reddit thread, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is offering free battery replacements for the OnePlus 3, the OnePlus 5, the OnePlus 5T, the OnePlus 6, and also the OnePlus 6T users in India.

The process to offer the free battery replacement offer is simple. OnePlus 3, OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6, and OnePlus 6T users in India who wish to avail of the free battery replacement will just need to pay the labor cost for the replacement. As per the thread, the labor cost for one user’s OnePlus 5T amounted to just Rs 473.

The battery health of these devices may have significantly reduced due to usage and all the charging cycles over the years. The Reddit user claims that the reason why OnePlus India is providing free battery replacement to users of the OnePlus 3 series, 5 series, and 6 series is that it wants to clear out the large number of spare batteries left in the stock.

Replacing the battery of the older models for free makes total sense if you plan to use your device for a longer time. The OnePlus 3, for instance, packed a 3000 mAh battery. This device will barely last for three-four hours depending on the battery health and use case. The OnePlus 5, 5T and OnePlus 6 came with a slightly bigger 3,300 mAh battery, whereas the OnePlus 6T packed a 3,700 mAh cell. It is unclear if the offer is applicable to the OnePlus 7 series or newer models.

Notably, one can get a free battery replacement only if they walk into an official OnePlus store/service center. It is not applied for courier pickup as that might incur extra charges. In case you do not want to risk visiting the store just to check if the free battery replacement is there, you can book it in advance online. However, in that case, you will only be able to get a 50% discount on the cost of the replacement battery.

Once again, all of this is based on the claims of the Reddit post that OnePlus has indeed started replacing batteries of these phones for free. A claim that is yet to be confirmed as OnePlus has released no official word on the matter.
