The Taiwanese chip manufacturer has been powering TVs for a long time now and its latest S900 chip is ready to power the next-gen 8K Smart TVs. MediaTek’s official website also says that more than 2 billion TVs worldwide are powered by their chips.

Launched almost a year ago, the MediaTek S900 chip uses ARM Cortex A-73 cores and Mali G-52 GPU. The chip supports 8K video decoding along with HDR10+ support as well using HDMI 2.1A. It also offers a maximum bandwidth of 48GB/s, which, in turn, allows you to stream 4K at 120 FPS and 8K at 60 FPS.

The chip also features MediaTek’s proprietary AI PQ (AI Picture Quality) that uses machine learning to upscale video content, ultimately improving image quality automatically.

MediaTek has mentioned on its official website that they are ready for the transformation of 8K solutions in the field of smart TV. Their new S900 chip (MediaTek 8K smart TV processor series) will be the first among its 8K smart TV chip series. There’s no particular mention of any OEM who will use the chip as yet.
