Barcelona to sell Camp Nou naming rights to provide funds for Coronavirus charity

The whole world is mourning right now as millions of people around the globe are affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. Economic problems have started arising too.

The football clubs are also facing huge financial problems as they have stopped getting their earnings due to the leagues being suspended.

In this time of crisis, Barcelona has come forward and shown a great gesture to fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. Barcelona has now given away the naming rights of their Camp Nou stadium for the next season in an effort to raise money for the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Blaugranas have never previously offered up commercial rights for their stadium name since its inauguration in 1957.

Barcelona said that the measures fit their claim to be “more than a club” and that they hoped to be able to “create a wave of hope for millions of people around the world who are suffering due to this pandemic”. A statement described this as a “global crisis without precedents” during which Barcelona have to “assume responsibility”.

The statement read: “We are very happy to be able to drive forward this initiative that offers something as emblematic as the name of our stadium so that institutions, organisation, businesses, who wise [sic] may associate themselves with it and as such contribute to the fight against COVID-19 given that their investment will be used to finance research projects on the illness and projects that are working to eradicate to lesson its effects.”

Barcelona has given the title rights of the Camp Nou to the Barca Foundation, who will find a sponsor for the 2020-21 season.

The club said: “Revenue will be used to fund research projects and the worldwide fight against the pandemic. FC Barcelona and the Barca Foundation consider it a necessity that at this time of humanitarian crisis, the institution should use all its resources to fight against the coronavirus pandemic and its consequences.”

This is a great initiative from one of the most prestigious clubs of Europe. Barcelona is leading by example which the other top European clubs must follow and come forward to help the world fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
