10-core 10th Gen Intel Comet Lake-S CPU spotted on Geekbench

The upcoming 10th Gen Intel Comet Lake-S CPUs are the result of Intel’s another generation of “tick-tock” procedure over its age-old 14nm architecture. Squeezing out the maximum from its 14nm node Intel is currently focussing to meet customer demand as its facing shortage of 14nm nodes in the procedure of making 10nm nodes, which also seems in trouble especially for desktop Ice Lake lineup.

To fight with its even-more powerful competitor AMD, Intel has no option but releasing the new CPUs based on their age-old architecture. In 2020, Intel seems to bring these new Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs to the limelight and as per leaks, Intel will go from 4 cores to all the way up to 10 cores.

Intel officially announces 10th Gen Comet Lake Processors based on 14nm

Previously we got some benchmark leaks of 14nm Comet Lake Intel Core i7-10710U CPU with 6 cores and 12 threads. Now we got some leaks of Core i5 and the alleged Core i9 model with 10-cores and 20-threads. The Geekbench 4 leaks show these CPUs to have a timid clock speed and possibly these are early-stage engineering samples.

To answer AMD’s monstrous 12 core and 16 core CPUs, Intel will debut with 10 cores for the first time for commercial CPUs. As the market needs more and more performance, its obvious Intel had to introduce a 10 core CPU to meet the performance race.

According to the Geekbench entries, we see 6 core CPU features a base clock speed of 1.99GHz and a mere boost clock of 2.89GHz. The cache has also bumped up, now with 384 KB L1 cache, 1.5 MB L2 cache, and 12 MB of L3 cache.

The alleged 10 core/ 20 thread which is supposed to the 10th Gen Core i9 has a base clock speed of 1.51GHz and a slightly increased boost clock of 3.19GHz. The cache has been increased to 640 KB of L1 cache, 2.5 MB of L2 cache and 20 MB of L3 cache.

These new CPUs feature Intel’s new UHD Graphics 630 iGPUs and the graphics core frequency is higher on the 10-core (1.2 GHz) compared to the 6-core (1.15 GHz). Even though these are early engineering samples, we get a fair idea about these upcoming 10th Gen Intel Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs.
