Zomato, one of India’s biggest food delivery platforms, has unveiled an expedited safety response initiative to ensure the safety of its delivery partners. It is the latest initiative introduced to automatically detect crashes through the delivery partner app, providing instant help in the unfortunate event of road accidents. If a crash is detected, the app immediately makes an emergency call to Zomato’s central response system, which then calls an ambulance to the delivery partner’s location. Zomato is enabling a new world where this process will be automated, which will remove the need for human intervention and will dramatically speed up response time in case of an emergency, thus saving precious lives in a time of an emergency.

Zomato Launches Crash Detection and Emergency Response Program for Delivery Partners

Apart from introducing the crash detection feature, Zomato has also been training its delivery partners to have life-saving skills. According to the firm, it has trained close to 45,000 delivery partners in emergency first aid, basic life support, and CPR since September 2024. This is a testament to the company’s commitment to ensuring that its workforce is equipped and capable of handling emergencies — and that it contributes to improved road safety for its delivery partners.

The program was launched at Zomato’s “Sustainability and Inclusivity: Role of the Platform Economy” conference held in New Delhi. Speaking at the conference, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, commended the food delivery sector for providing large-scale employment throughout the country. He pointed out that 7.7 million delivery workers are currently employed in the industry, which is expected to be working to 25 million by 2030. The minister stressed the need to generate jobs for Indian youth, stating that it would have a huge multiplier effect on the economy.

Gadkari later released some critical statistics regarding road safety where he mentioned that every hour about 45 accidents and 20 deaths take place in India. The most deaths are in the age group of 18 to 45, two-wheeler accidents kill 80,000 people every year, he added. Besides, there are other important causes of death, such as not using helmets (55,000 deaths) and driving on the wrong side of the road (10,000 deaths).
