Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be returning to AC Milan once again, this time as part of the board. The Swede will be reporting to the club owner, Gerry Cardinale, as part of his new role. His designation has been confirmed as a Operating Partner and a Senior Advisor to RedBird Capital Partners, who own the club.
The striker was influential in helping the Rossoneri win the Serie A title two seasons ago. Even though his contributions were limited due to a recurring injury, his presence alone was vital in helping the team get over the finish line and win the title on the final day.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to AC Milan as board member
Ibrahimovic announced his retirement from football this past summer, at the end of the 22/23 season. The Swede could not play due to his recurring knee injury, and eventually, he decided to call it a day on his illustrious playing career. But even though he wasn’t able to contribute on the pitch, his presence alone inspired the team to up their level as they reached the Champions League semi-final.
In light of the comments made by club legend and former sporting director Paolo Maldini, Cardinale will be advised by one of the most memorable players in the history of the club in Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Moreover, his winning mentality will also play a huge part in ensuring that the first team has a leader to follow.
Milan’s consistency has been absent this season, with the club stumbling to a 3-2 loss against Atalanta in their most recent Serie A outing. They are nine points behind table toppers and rivals Inter Milan, but have enough time to turn things around and put up a strong challenge for the title again.
