Zlatan Ibrahimovic signed a six-month deal with AC Milan in January with an option to further extend a year. But now it seems the option won’t be required as Ibrahimovic’s days at San Siro appear to be numbered.

Ibrahimovic was seen in a training ground confrontation with AC Milan chief executive Ivan Gazidis in front of many first-team squad members. The club’s chief executive had been away from Milan for the last few months and this has angered the Swede.

Gazidis suddenly came to the training ground after being away for so long. He came to the training ground on Thursday to inform the players of a wage cut due to the after-effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Ibrahimovic also claimed that ‘Milan aren’t what they used to be at one point in time’. He was earlier upset by the sacking of his friend Zvonimir Boban from the role of chief football officer. Boban was instrumental in bringing Ibrahimovic to San Siro. But after a public fall out with Gazidis, he was sacked. Boban later claimed Gazidis’ behaviour as ‘disrespectful’.

Ibrahimovic draws a large salary at Milan. His reported six-month salary as per the deal was around €4m. In this time of crisis, it seems Milan will pass on the option of extending his contract and rather sell him to cut the loses.

This training ground war of words happened just two days before the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final tie against Juventus. This incident has grabbed the headlines. Now it remains to be seen whether it would affect Milan’s performances in the clash against Juventus.

The Coppa Italia game Juventus vs AC Milan kicks off on Friday, 12th June at 9 pm local time (12:30 am IST).
