Real Madrid hosted Alaves at their new makeshift stadium Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano. It was once again the same consistent story of Real Madrid keeping their defences tight as Benzema scores in the opposite goal.
It’s now 8 consecutive wins for the Los Blancos after the season restart and Thibaut Courtois kept his fifth consecutive clean sheet. The Belgian had a mixed first season but this time he is right in line with the top goalkeepers of the league – Oblak and Ter Stegen. Real Madrid has just conceded 21 league goals, which is the fewest in the LaLiga.

Ferland Mendy was fouled in the penalty box in the 11th minute and Benzema made no mistake to convert from the spot. 5 minutes into the second half, Marco Asensio scored another goal but it was initially judged offside only for VAR to reverse the decision and allow the goal.
Alaves did get some good chances but could not capitalise on them. Los Blancos almost had a comfortable 2-0 win to lay on hand on the 2019-2020 LaLiga title.
Zidane told a video press conference (via MARCA): “He’s [Thibaut Courtois] a very important player and a great influence. It’s a team effort, but Thibaut is stopping a lot of goals and we’re doing very well.”
“Not conceding goals is impossible, but it’s true that we’re conceding very few. We have to keep doing what we’re doing and we have a very fit Courtois. The team don’t concede a lot.”
Zidane has done an excellent job in his second stint at Real Madrid. He prepared his players excellently for this season restart and you can clearly see the difference as Real Madrid are the only team to win all their matches after the season restart.
With this win, Real Madrid are once again 4 points clear of Barcelona with only 3 matches left to play in this LaLiga season. Zidane’s men now need only 5 points from their remaining matches to win their 2nd LaLiga title under the Frenchman.
