There have been many recent reports which suggested that Raphael Varane is on the move maybe next summer. Many thought Manchester United would probably pounce on the opportunity to sign the World Cup winning French defender.
But now, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has played spoilsport. He said that Madrid won’t sell Varane at any cost.
The central defender has been one of the mainstays alongside Ramos in the Real Madrid side. He has proved to be one of the best centre backs and probably he is the fastest around which makes it difficult for strikers to run behind him.
All these summed up makes Varane an integral part of the Real Madrid side.
Zidane seemed to firmly rule out selling Varane while speaking at his press conference, as quoted by Goal.
“It’s not just me [who wants to keep him],” the French tactician said.
“He is part of this club, we were very lucky to be able to bring him to Madrid. He has a great career, he’s achieved a lot since he’s been here. Of course, he is untransferable for the club, for the coach that I am, for people in general.”
“That’s clear and unambiguous. Now we can’t stop people from talking. They’re not just talking about Varane, but about all the players, Real Madrid ones and others.”
“But for Varane, my position is clear, and it’s the same as the club’s position.”
So it’s bad news for all the Manchester United fans. Meanwhile, Real Madrid would hope that Varane can take on the mantle from Ramos who is slowly edging towards the twilight of his career.
