Be honest — when you heard “Zach Galifianakis has a gardening show,” you probably smirked. The man best known for his [*Between Two Ferns*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Between_Two_Ferns_with_Zach_Galifianakis) awkwardness and Alan from *The Hangover* feels like the last person who should be talking about compost. And yet, *This Is a Gardening Show* on Netflix is quietly one of the most charming things streaming right now.

It has no right to work. Somehow, it absolutely does.

## What Is This Show, Actually?

Think of it as comfort TV in its purest form. Galifianakis hosts alongside real gardening experts — and crucially, kids. Yes, children. And that combination is weirdly, wonderfully effective. The episodes are short, the tone is breezy, and beneath all the silly jokes there’s just enough genuine gardening content to keep you from feeling like you wasted your evening.

If you loved Galifianakis in *Between Two Ferns*, this is the same awkward energy — but gentler, warmer, and somehow more human. It’s perfect viewing for a tired Thursday night. ## Why It Actually Works

The secret weapon here is Galifianakis’s dynamic with the children. He’ll ask a surprisingly thoughtful, almost philosophical question — then immediately torpedo it with a deliberately dumb follow-up. In most settings that’d be exhausting. Here, it lands every single time.

His comedy style remains impossible to categorise. There’s no one else on television doing quite what he does. It occasionally tips into very dry, almost childlike silliness — but in this format, that’s precisely the point. Want more content like this? Bottom line

In a world drowning in true crime and dystopian dramas, *This Is a Gardening Show* does the opposite of everything. It’s small, silly, and genuinely joyful — the TV equivalent of a Sunday afternoon nap in a garden chair.

## Should Netflix Renew It?

Absolutely. The only real criticism is that the season ends too soon. You’ll want more — which is the best possible problem a show can give you. Netflix should greenlight season 2 immediately.
