The Android version of the YouTube service has already started supporting the amazing picture-in-picture mode and according to fresh sources, the feature is soon expected to be rolled out to iPhones as well as iPads.

We already know that the picture-in-picture mode allows users to continue viewing a video even when an application has been minimized. And this feature has been a boon to people attending online classes, just mentioning it.

To turn on picture-in-picture:

  1. Go to your Android settings Apps & notifications Advanced Special app access Picture-in-picture.
  2. Tap YouTube.
  3. To turn on, tap Allow picture-in-picture.

However, YouTube will only be rolling out the new feature to premium subscribers. according to reports, the developers are expected to roll out the feature to non-premium users as well, which is wonderful news for iPhone users.

The picture-in-picture support, on an operating system level, was first introduced on iPads with the iOS 9 update. iOS devices received the update much later with iOS 14. However, some iPad users still use the picture-in-picture while using YouTube on the Safari browser. But this feature was only available for premium subscribers.

However, Google indicates that with the official rollout of the new picture-in-picture mode, more users will be able to access the new feature, at least in the United States. iOS users, with or without a YouTube Premium subscription, can access it using the YouTube app as Android users have for years.
