She mentioned that there are no plans for one, as it would be “challenging” and noted that sequels often fall short of expectations these days. Additionally, Kalki addressed the debate about Ranbir Kapoor’s character, Bunny, who some fans view as selfish, stating that she hadn’t given it much thought.
In a recent chat on AfterHours with All About Eve, Kalki Koechlin reflected on her 2013 blockbuster YJHD. When asked whether she perceived Bunny’s actions as self-centered, Kalki responded with humor, saying, “I honestly didn’t spend much time thinking about him. Why is he considered selfish?” Her light-hearted remark highlighted her perspective on the character’s controversial traits.
The host highlighted Bunny’s focus on chasing his dreams of travel and a carefree lifestyle while avoiding accountability for his choices. She referenced the film’s climax, where Bunny casually proposes to Naina, played by Deepika Padukone, essentially asking her to adapt to his dream of exploring the world. Reacting with a laugh, Kalki remarked, “That’s terrible, isn’t it?”
When discussing the complexities of Bunny and Naina’s relationship, Kalki humorously added, “You’ll have to ask Ayan (the director) about that. Maybe it was just meant to be a honeymoon trip.”
When asked about the possibility of a sequel to YJHD, Kalki Koechlin addressed the long-standing curiosity among fans. The actress clarified, “I have heard no such rumors,” indicating there are no current plans for a follow-up.
Despite the anticipation for YJHD 2, Kalki fondly reflected on the unique bond shared by Bunny, Naina, Aditi, and Avi in the original film. She noted, “You can’t make another one,” emphasizing the irreplaceable magic of the characters and their friendships.
Kalki also acknowledged the difficulty in recreating the charm of the 2013 hit, adding, “It’ll be hard to get that [magic] back. And usually, most sequels are disappointing. It’s rare to have a good sequel.”
The Ayan Mukerji-directed film, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Kalki Koechlin, remains a beloved classic. While no sequel has been officially confirmed, Kalki’s thoughts serve as a nostalgic reminder of the film’s enduring appeal.
