Yannick Carrasco has been one of Atletico Madrid’s most important players over the last few years, following his return from China. The Belgian is now being linked with a move to Barcelona as part of a swap deal which could see Memphis Depay move in the other direction.
Diego Simeone’s side are not keen on including Carrasco in the negotiations since they highly value the player. Moreover, they also need to replace Joao Felix for the foreseeable future, as he left to join Chelsea on loan.
Yannick Carrasco linked with Barcelona move
The player’s agent, Pini Zahavi, has commented on the links with Barcelona, stating:
“The plan is to trade Yannick (Carrasco) for Memphis (Depay). There is nothing concrete yet, nor do I know if it will work, but negotiations are ongoing. Yannick likes Barca and is a good player.”
However, Yannick Carrasco has contradicted Zahavi by saying that he is committed to the cause at the Spanish capital:
“Right now I am only thinking about Atleti. All the players have to be 100% committed to fight together for the objectives,” he said.
As a result, it is difficult to gauge whether the player actually wants to join Barcelona or whether he is keen on staying at the Metropolitano.
Memphis Depay is open to joining Atletico Madrid since he isn’t getting many opportunities at Barcelona. And according to Fabrizio Romano, the Rojiblancos are closing in on the transfer. A fee worth €3 million has been agreed between the two clubs. The here we go signal is expected very soon from Romano, which would practically confirm that it is a done deal.
The future of Carrasco, however, remains up in the air as there are no hints whether he is included in the transfer plans. Madrid will hope to keep both players as they have an important second half of the season coming up.
