Inter Milan have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for the transfer of Yann Sommer. The Swiss international will be the replacement for Andre Onana, who left for Manchester United this summer. The Nerazzurri have paid lower than the player’s €9 million release clause to finalise the transfer, and are expected to make it official in the coming week.
Sommer only spent six months with Bayern Munich after he was signed from Borussia Monchengladbach. The Bavarians signed him to cope with the injury to Manuel Neuer, after the German suffered a broken leg in a skiing accident.
Yann Sommer to join Inter Milan in the coming days
Personal terms were ready between Sommer and Inter Milan weeks ago. The only problem was an agreement between the two clubs for the transfer to go through. And after several rounds of negotiations, the move will go through for a reported €6 million fee, two-thirds of his €9 million release clause.
The player is expected to be the new number one for Inter ahead of veteran Samir Handanovic. He is renowned for his shot-stopping abilities, and will be a huge addition to the UCL finalists ahead of the coming season.
Bayern are searching for a new number two, and have been linked with David De Gea in recent weeks. They tried to sign David Raya from Brentford as well, but he only wants to join Arsenal. Giorgi Mamardashvili has also been linked with a move to the Bavarians, but an agreement is yet to be reached.
