Brighton have confirmed the signing of Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh for a fee worth €38.80 million. The Gambian has agreed to a contract till 2029 with the Seagulls, and becomes the latest youngster to join them.

Fabian Hurzeler’s involvement was important in getting the deal over the line, as he was the one who explained and convinced the youngster about the project.

The €38 million fee is the highest-ever amount paid for a player from Gambia, and makes the 19-year-old a special transfer already. Brighton are not a club that spends a lot on transfers, which makes the amount spent even more significant.

Yankuba Minteh spent this past season on loan at Feyenoord, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists in 37 games across all competitions, while also making a handful of appearances in the Champions League.

The Seagulls are known for their incredible scouting, and this could be yet another case of them discovering a hidden gem first. Minteh has the backing of the numbers to build on his raw talent, and will join a team already full of exciting young talent.

Will Kaoru Mitoma be sold this summer?

Very likely, given Brighton have already invested in a new winger
