After delivering powerful performances in courtroom drama *Haq* and rom-com *Dhoom Dhaam*, Yami Gautam is switching gears completely — and the result looks absolutely captivating. Amazon Prime Video officially announced **Nayi Naveli** starring Yami Gautam at its *It Starts Here* 2026 slate event — a horror-comedy rooted in Indian mythology that’s shaping up to be one of the freshest big-screen experiences of the year.

## **What Is Nayi Naveli About?**

The official synopsis reads: “A picture-perfect bride transforms a chaotic Meerut household into a slice of heaven… until her brother-in-law suspects that things may not be as perfect as they seem.”

It’s a brilliantly deceptive premise — warm, domestic, and whimsical on the surface, with something quietly sinister simmering underneath. The film combines elements from Indian folklore and mythology, offering a unique blend of humour, fright, and emotion — described by insiders as being “envisioned on a big scale.”

An insider revealed: “After Haq, Yami was looking to do something in a lighter zone, but with substance. Nayi Naveli is that perfect combination — while it’s a funny film, it’s not without elements that offer intrigue and emotionality.”

## **The Dream Team Behind It**–

The creative muscle behind this film is genuinely exceptional.

**Balaji Mohan** — the Tamil filmmaker behind the beloved *Maari* and *Maari 2* — makes his Hindi directorial debut with this film. His ability to blend action, heart, and sharp comedy in a mass-entertainment format makes him the ideal fit for this genre.

The script is penned by **Divy Nidhi Sharma**, the writer behind *Laapataa Ladies* (2024), *Heeramandi* (2024), and *Sitaare Zameen Par* (2025) — making this her second collaboration with Aanand L Rai after the yet-to-release *Nakhrewaalii*. [Esports](https://www.esports.net/wiki/guides/fortnite-weapon-changes/) If the writing pedigree alone doesn’t excite you, nothing will.

And **Aanand L Rai** — the filmmaker behind *Tanu Weds Manu*, *Raanjhanaa*, *Zero*, and *Laapataa Ladies* — produces under his beloved **Colour Yellow Productions** banner. The humour is described as “atypical of Aanand L Rai’s slice-of-life productions”— meaning this is something genuinely new from him, too.

## **Why Yami Is the Perfect Choice?**

Yami Gautam previously explored the horror-comedy genre in *Bhoot Police* (2021), and her last comedy outing was the romantic caper *Dhoom Dhaam* (2025) with Pratik Gandhi. But Nayi Naveli promises something far more layered — a fierce new avatar deeply rooted in Indian mythology that we haven’t seen from her before. This is Yami going full *Stree*-zone energy, with the weight of Aanand L Rai’s world-building behind her.
