Eshwar Nilakantan, Head of SmartTV Category at Xiaomi India, made an official announcement about another important milestone that the Chinese company crossed this month.
Xiaomi India on Wednesday announced that it has sold over 7 million smart TVs across Redmi and Xiaomi portfolio, since its inception in 2018. Sales data cover the period from March 2018 to September 2021.
According to the company, Redmi Smart TV X 50-inch, Mi TV 4AA 32-inch, Mi TV 5X 43-inch witnessed maximum demand from consumers.
Eshwar Nilakantan says the company has played a key role in the growth of the smart TV market in India, which has doubled this year compared to 2018. He also states that sales of the company’s 4K TVs grew a whopping 53 times during the holiday promotions in October. In just three days, the company managed to sell more than 100 thousand TVs.
On the other hand, 32-inch models continue to be the most popular as they continue to be the entry ticket into this world for aspiring smart TV users.
“As we continue to expand our portfolio in the market, we will focus on serving our ambition of bringing innovation to all, thereby making television viewing an enjoyable experience,” said Nilakantan.
While 32-inch remained dominant with new customers shifting from non-smart to smart TV, the company observed existing users migrating to larger screen size and 4K within that segment.
Xiaomi has been selling smart TVs in India since the first half of 2018. Until 2020, the company offered only TVs under the Mi brand in the country. This year, the Chinese tech giant even unveiled models under the Redmi brand.
