When we first heard that Apple would be releasing its first in-house silicon, we were extremely excited to see how the new silicon and will perform. And color us impress the silicon turned out to be a power-house. Both in the mobile and PC platforms, Apple’s processors are top-notch.

But it seems like another smartphone manufacturer is venturing into the silicon market. According to sources, it will be Xiaomi which is currently teasing a new custom chip that could release as soon as next week.

On Weibo, the OEM published a new post that hints at a “self-developed chip” in several similar posts by Xiaomi executives have mentioned terms such as “surged” or “surging,” which could give us some hint at what the name of the device is going to be like.

However, this is not the first chip manufactured by the Chinese OEM; in 2017, the company released its first chip, and it was called the Surge S1. But, it did not make many appearances and was used in the budget Xiaomi Mi 5C, which no one remembers even existed.

So, rumors indicate that the new Surge chip will be a full-fledged smartphone chip, but developing an SoC in-house is a complex task that requires a lot of investment and time.

But Xiaomi is known for its innovations and is also properly equipped to make this happen. The company recently announced a liquid lens technology that can work as a telephoto and a macro lens and is comparatively smaller than traditional smartphone lenses.
