Xavi Simons could end up staying at PSG beyond the summer, since the club are now prepared to offer him an improved contract. The youngster joined from Barcelona, and has since been featuring for the B team, with limited opportunities in the seniors.

The midfielder and his agent, Mino Raiola, are in talks with the PSG board for a new contract. And as talks progress, they are hopeful of reaching an agreement for an extended stay soon. Paris want the youngster to stay and develop at the club, and are hence likely to match his demands.

The player’s former club, Barcelona, wanted to sign him as a free agent when his contract ran out in the summer. But according to reports, Lionel Messi himself discouraged Xavi from pursuing Simons since he believes the youngster hasn’t developed as much yet.

Xavi Simons was rebuked by his coach recently, due to his misbehavior in the UEFA Youth League game against Sevilla. He asked his opponents to shut up after scoring from the spot, which sparked a brawl between the two sets of players.

In three years with the French club, the midfielder has been unable to secure a first team spot. And as a teenager, he still has a lot of development ahead of him. And by the looks of things, PSG seem to be ready to gamble on him in the long-term, hoping that he will realise his potential and become a regular in the first team.
