Former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso has been named as the successor of Marco Rose, who will join Borussia Dortmund in the summer. Alonso will be appointed as the Borussia Moenchengladbach manager in June.
After his retirement from professional football, the former Spanish international has been managing the Real Sociedad B team. His team is currently first in the third division of the Spanish league.
Alonso knows the Bundesliga pretty well as he played for Bayern Munich from 2014 to 2017. He won the Bundesliga three times with Bayern Munich and won the Champions League with Liverpool and Real Madrid. He also had a very successful international career as he won a World Cup and two European Championship titles.
The 39-year-old ended his professional football in 2017. In the 2018/2019 season, Alonso coached Real Madrid’s U14s before taking over Real Sociedad’s Reserve team in 2019.
Xabi Alonso will take a giant leap in his managerial career which he will take over Bundesliga side Borussia Moenchengladbach in June.
