WTC Final day 4: India vs New Zealand delayed due to rain

The usual Dinesh Karthik weather update tweet has been posted, which indicates that there’s no way play can be expected to start anytime soon. The BCCI has also tweeted about the Ageas Bowl, which is being held under wraps. With 90 minutes to go, the pitch is covered, which is not a good indication.

Technically, this is day four. The third day’s proceedings will be delayed by rain delays. Rain is anticipated for the majority of the second session, while the rest of the day will be gloomy. Batting conditions would be difficult, and India will hope that their bowlers can take advantage of the circumstances.

On the third day of the World Test Championship final on Sunday, play was called off owing to bad light. New Zealand are in a strong position at 101 for two wickets, answering to India’s 217 first-innings total.

Kane Williamson, the captain, was batting on 12 at the time of the end (37 balls). Devon Conway got out for 54 (153 balls) just as the umpires judged the light was not good enough to play. Mohammad Shami caught Conway at mid-on off Ishant Sharma to make up for the fact that he bowled brilliantly but went wicketless. Conway’s half-century was the match’s first so far.

Tom Latham, who was on 30 runs in 104 balls, was knocked out by R. Ashwin, with skipper Virat Kohli taking a brilliant catch at short extra-cover. New Zealand would be comfortable despite being 116 runs behind since their most experienced batsman, Ross Taylor, had still to bat in his 108th Test.

The adverse weather will have a significant impact on the outcome of this Test match. Amidst the fact that the first day was utterly ruined by rain, the competition still has three days left. The two teams’ fortunes at the Hampshire Bowl will be determined by seam and swing bowling.

India were 146 for three on the third day of play, with Kohli (44) and Ajinkya Rahane (29) at the crease. After the lunch break, India was completely depleted. Rahane finished the innings with 49 points (117 balls), while Kohli added 44. (132 balls). Rohit Sharma, the opener, contributed 34 points (68 balls).

Kyle Jamieson, bowling for New Zealand, took his fifth five-wicket innings haul for 31 runs in 22 overs in his ninth Test. Kohli, Sharma, and Rishabh Pant were among the wickets he took in 12 maiden overs (4).
