Mumbai Indians have been crowned the inaugural champions of the WPL, winning the 2023 edition after defeating Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets. They were able to chase down the target of 134 with three balls remaining to emerge as the winners of the tournament.

Hayley Matthews and Issy Wong took three wickets each in a remarkable bowling performance in the first innings. Wong had taken a hat-trick in the eliminator, finishing at 4-15 after her four overs. And her contribution proved to be vital this time around as well.

Nat Sciver-Brunt (60*) and Harmanpreet (37) were able to play very admirable knocks to guide Mumbai Indians to the title. The penultimate over of the second innings proved to be the game changer for the batting side.

Jess Jonassen conceded 16 runs off the 19th over to give them a huge chance of winning the game. With only five runs needed from the final over, it was an easy task for MI, who took it easy. Sciver-Brunt played a skillful scoop shot to score a four and earn the winning runs for her team.

It was a disheartening loss for the Capitals, who were almost able to defend their total. But in the final stage of the game, things completely turned against them. They finish as the runners-up of the inaugural edition of the WPL.
