Bhavish Aggarwal, the co-founder of Ola Cabs on Saturday confirmed reports of the company working on electric motorcycle and lower-cost electric scooter via social media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a previous blog post, Aggarwal stated that the company intends to broaden its EV offering beyond e-scooters to include e-bikes and e-cars. He took to Twitter to announce the company\u2019s focus on electric bikes and lower-cost e-scooters. Aggarwal tweeted, \u201cYes next year,\u201d<\/em> while retweeting an Electrek news report related to the production of electric motorcycles and cheaper electric scooters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ola Electric had secured $200 million in funding earlier in September to speed up its ambitions to manufacture electric motorcycles and cars. According to Aggarwal, the capital infusion is part of the EV startup\u2019s commitment to promoting its \u2018Mission Electric: No petrol 2W in India after 2025.\u2019 By the middle of the decade, the startup believes there will be no petrol-powered two-wheelers on the country\u2019s roads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with this, according to a new report<\/a>, Ola is developing a new e-scooter that will be positioned below S1 and would be the entry-level model in the company\u2019s two-wheeler lineup. It is likely to be called Ola Series S. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ola has already registered the name. This new e-scooter is most likely to be based on the same S1 series and could miss out on certain features to make it more cost-friendly. Even with more modest battery and motor specifications, the new e-scooter is expected to offer a range of around 100km on a single charge along with a top speed of around 75-80 kmph. However, it is too early to speculate exact numbers from the powertrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report has also stated about the pricing of the new variant of e-scooter. As per the report, The prie of this new Ola Scooter variant will also be less. Current base variant of Ola electric scoter S1 is under Rs 1 lakh, which goes down further with FAME-II and state subsidies. The upcoming cheaper version of Ola electric scooter is expected to be priced in the Rs 70k to Rs 80k range, making it a direct rival to India\u2019s best selling scooters Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter in terms of price range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
