Today was the Computex 2021 event where AMD made lots of new announcements. One of the most exciting is AMD Advantage. To date, there was no proper standard for a gaming laptop. AMD comes forward and takes responsibility. It provides a complete checklist that a gaming laptop needs to fulfill to get the AMD Advantage badge. Here are the criterias –
- IPS or OLED panel display with over 144Hz refresh rate
- Very low latency
- 300 nits brightness at least
- 100% sRGB or 70% NTSC color gamut
- AMD FreeSync Premium technology support
You can read why this AMD Advantage is important for next-generation gaming laptops from here.
Now, post this announcement, two back-to-back gaming laptops are launched in the market, and a third one after a while.
The immediate two laptops are ASUS ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition and HP Omen 16. Later, ASUS again announces ROG Strix G17 Advantage Edition. These three are the first gaming laptops to receive the AMD Advantage Badge.
As the ROG Strix G15 is the main focus here, it’s obvious laptop has top-notch specs to deliver the best gaming experience. As a powerhouse, the laptop has up to Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU configuration along with the graphics processing power of AMD Radeon RX 6800M.
The CPU has 8 cores, 16 threads, and the clock speed can hit up to 4.6 GHz. Coming to the GPU, the RX 6900M can deliver up to 2,300 MHz, a much higher output than the RDNA 1.0 mobile GPUs. The Strix G15 supports AMD’s SmartShift and Smart Access Memory feature.
Besides the gaming beast is coming with dual SO-DIMM slots, dual M.2 2280 slots, and a 90 Whr battery. There are multiple useful ports as well like 3.5mm jack, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, USB 3,2 Gen2 Type-C ports, LAN port, and HDMI 2.0b port.
ASUS is offering two display options in the Strix G15 Advantage Edition, though, both the screens are IPS panels and 15.6-inch in size. The model with less price has FHD 300 Hz panel with a 100% sRGB color gamut. Whereas, the higher model gets a 165 Hz QHD panel with 100% DCI-P3 color accuracy. Both the panel supports AMD FreeSync Premium and response time is 3ms.
There is no information exactly when the ROG Strix G15 will come to the market for sale and what amount the buyers need to pay. Only the starting price is known to us for the German market, which is €1,799.
