Indian Men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty enter the semifinals which means they have already assured the maiden medal. They defeated Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi of Japan in the quarterfinals here on Friday. This is indeed a historic moment for India. The duo now have their eyes set on the gold medal.
They were ranked as World number 7 and also bagged their Commonwealth Games gold medal in the earlier part of the month. They defeated the Japanese pair 24- 22 15-21 21-14 in an hour in the quarter-finals. It would be India’s second World Championships medal in doubles as Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa have won their first medal in 2011 in women’s doubles.
MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila’s fine run ended as well after the Indian pair lost three-time gold medallists Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in their men’s doubles quarterfinals.
Satwiksairaj Reddy-Chirag Shetty claimed India’s first men’s doubles medal at World Championships. They has some great victories this week but lost 8-21 14-21 to the third seeded Indonesiann pair in less than 30 minutes. The Indian players had earlier defeated Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark in the second round.
HS Prannoy from who everyone had a lot of expectations, lost in the Quarterfinals of the World Badminton Championship to China’s Zhao Jun Peng.
Earlier in the pre-quarterfinals, HS Prannoy defeated Lakshya Sen and qualified for the last -8 stage of the tournament. Jun Peng had a huge celebration since he defeated Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in the third round.
