The quarter finals of the women’s Euros are drawing closer, with the group stages coming to an end. Most of the spots have been filled, with only the opponent of Sweden yet to be decided.
In this article, we will be taking a look at the countries which have qualified for the quarter finals, and the fixtures surrounding the last eight.
Women’s Euro 2022: Who makes it to the quarter finals?
The following teams have already earned a place among the last eight teams in the tournament:
- Sweden
- England
- France
- Netherlands
- Germany
- Austria
- Spain
Sweden’s opponent will be either one of Iceland, Belgium or Italy. Iceland could qualify if they earn a win against France. Or, if Belgium vs Italy ends in a draw and they also tie against France.
But, things could get complicated as well. As analysed by football London: If Italy and Belgium draw 1-1 and Iceland lose 2-1, Belgium and Iceland would have identical records, meaning it will go down to whoever has the lower disciplinary points, and potentially the highest UEFA coefficient ranking.
However, both Belgium and Italy will be heading into their game with the mindset of earning a win which could see them through to the knockout stages.
The quarter finals of the 2022 Women’s Euros will start from Wednesday with England vs Spain, followed by Germany vs Austria, Sweden vs TBD and Netherlands vs France on Saturday.
