Women's Asia Cup 2022: India bags its seventh title defeating Sri Lanka

India defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets and won their seventh Asia Cup title. Smriti Mandhana piled up 51 runs unbeaten off 25 deliveries that helped India chase a very low target of 66 runs in 8.3 overs. The Indian bowlers had restricted Sri Lanka to this low score. Indian bowler Renuka Singh shined as she picked three wickets and Rajeshwari Gayakad and Sneh Rana picked two wickets each.

India vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup Final 2022: Match Highlights

Sri Lanka elected to bat first and they had a terrible start. Renuka Singh was the highlight, who made skipper Chamari Athapaththu run out at just 6. dismissed Harshitha Madavi for 1, and Hasini Perera for 0. Anushka Sanjeewani scored just 2 and Sri Lanka was already at 9/4 in 3.5 overs. Kavisha got again dismissed by Renuka and Dilhari could score just a single run.

India chased a target of 66 runs and had an amazing start. The team was at 32/1 when Mandhana scored her unbeaten 26 runs off 14 balls smashing two fours and two sixes. Jemimah Rodrigues got dismissed soon by Kavisha Dilhari. The next batter was skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. At the end of the powerplay, India’s score was already 42/2. Mandhana then smashed two fours that took India to the 50-run mark. The duo helped India with an eight-wicket win finishing at 71/2 in just 8.3 overs. Smriti Mandhana scored an unbeaten 51 off 31 balls finishing the match with a six.

Sri Lanka’s batting failure helped India win their seventh title. This was completely a one-sided victory for the Indian team since they defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in with 11.3 overs to spare. Renuka Singh was awarded the player of the match by her extraordinary bowling performance.
