FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be hosted in 3 venues in India

With less than six months until the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022, FIFA has named Bhubaneswar, Goa, and Navi Mumbai as the tournament’s host cities, as well as announced that the tournament’s draw will take place on June 24 in Zurich.

FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup hosting cities are under review

Just after the termination of the competitions in 2020 due to the COVID-19 global epidemic, FIFA, the All India Football Federation (AIFF), and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) have announced the updated Host Cities for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, following a thorough review and consultation process.

Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium, Goa’s Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, and Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium have been announced as the three venues that will host some of the brightest emerging talents and future stars of women’s football later this year to ensure the safety of the players involved and other tournament participants.

Sarai Bareman, FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer, said: “With qualifying ongoing around the world, we are very excited to announce the date of the draw, as well as confirm the three Host Cities for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022.”

FIFA and LOC

Praful Patel, the LOC chairman, AIFF President, and FIFA Council member, said: “The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 host states – Maharashtra, Goa, and Odisha – share our excitement and enthusiasm about leaving behind a lasting legacy while shining a celebratory light on India’s culture, diversity, and love for the beautiful game.

Apart from the hosts, six countries – Brazil, Chile, China PR, Colombia, Japan, and New Zealand – have already confirmed their participation in the competition and will be included in the draw on June 24. There are still seats available in numerous confederations, with a total of 16 teams expected to compete.

FIFA and the LOC also revealed that 116 women have received their E Licence football coaching qualifications as a result of the youth tournament’s legacy initiative, the Coach Education Scholarship Program, which is being used to boost the grassroots of women’s football in India.
