Having avoided relegation in the 2022/23 Premier League season, Wolves will have a big summer coming up. They will have to carry out their transfer business very carefully in order to build the squad to Julen Lopetegui’s tactics and to ensure that the deadwood is cleared out to make room for newer, more productive players.

Here is the latest Wolves transfer news, rounding up the incomings and departures confirmed by the club, as well as rumoured so far.

After conversations between Lopetegui and the board, the two have reached an agreement over the project for the club this summer. Wolves have decided that the former Sevilla manager is the right person to lead the club in the coming season. And they will now prepare their business for the summer transfer window to reinforce the squad.

Wolves transfer news on Ruben Neves: Al Hilal close in on signing

After waiting for Barcelona to make an offer, it seems like Ruben Neves will be signing for Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. Wolves have accepted a big offer from the Middle East worth €55 million for the player, with only one year remaining on his current deal.

Personal terms had already been agreed between Neves and Barcelona. But, the FFP regulations prevented them from making a formal bid. And Neves is likely to accept the offer to move to Saudi Arabia now with personal terms close to being agreed.

“As the manager said in his press conferences recently, Adama is a player we’d like to keep and we’re still talking to him. He’s now out of contract, but it doesn’t mean there’s not an opportunity to still come to an agreement, so conversations will be ongoing. He’s probably earned the right to understand what else is out there,” Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs said about Traore’s contract situation.

“He’s a great guy around the place, always happy and friendly, so on every level we’d like to keep him. Sometimes it’s not possible, but we’ll certainly be trying. We hope we can come to an agreement but let’s see what happens over the next few weeks.”

The winger spent a brief spell on loan at his former club Barcelona, but is now playing for Wolves again. It remains to be seen whether the club will be able to reach an agreement with him to renew his deal at this stage.

Wolves transfer news 2023: Outgoings

Joao Moutinho will be leaving the club in the summer after making over 200 appearances for the club. The veteran midfielder was a constant presence in the middle of the park, and provided an immense amount of leadership in the locker room. He has decided to not renew his contract any further and will be walking out as a free agent.

The Portuguese spent five years with Wolves, and is now free to choose a new club to play for. He has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia for a transfer, but is yet to agree a deal with Al Ittihad, who have signed Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante already this summer.

Diego Costa will also be leaving the club upon the expiry of his short-term contract. The former Chelsea forward returned to the Premier League following the ACL injury to Sasa Kalajdzic, and has now seen out the length of his deal. As a result, he is also free to join a new club.

Goncalo Guedes is likely to remain at Benfica, having left Wolves on loan during the January transfer window. And it seems likely that the sale will be sanctioned in order to comply with FFP regulations.

Fabio Silva could leave permanently, following his loan spell at Anderlecht and PSV. The 20-year-old has a contract with Wolves until 2026, and could help their striker crisis. But, it all depends on Julen Lopetegui’s plans and whether he thinks that the youngster is ready to lead the line. Roma are interested in signing the player, but are yet to open talks with Wolves.

Connor Coady, who used to be the captain of the club, will be coming back to Wolves after being on loan at Everton. It is not clear yet if he will be able to rejoin the first team. However, Wolves are expected to accept an offer below the £4.5 million option that Everton had to let go of Coady.
