Wolves 3-0 Liverpool: Winless 2023 continues for Jurgen Klopp’s men

Liverpool were handed yet another 3-0 loss by Wolves in the Premier League, extending their search for a win in 2023 to another game. The Reds were outplayed by a relegation threatened team yet again, and they suffered a three-goal defeat once more.

They started the game very slow, and paid heavily for it with Joel Matip turning the ball into his own net within the first five minutes. Craig Dawson scored his first goal for Wolves shortly after, scoring off the rebound from a free-kick situation.

Ruben Neves added the third goal to complete a brilliant performance in the middle of the park by converting Adama Traore’s cutback to the midfielder.

Liverpool were able to have more of the ball, but were not able to make much of it during the game. Their once-impressive gegenpressing system has been absent this season, and they have allowed opposition teams way too much time to express themselves on the ball.

The injury to Virgil Van Dijk, and the lack of quality in midfield have been some of the main reasons behind their downfall. And in 2023 alone, they have been handed 3-goal defeats by Brentford, Brighton and now, Wolves.

At the end of the day, it was quite visible that Wolves wanted the win more badly than their opponents did. And Julen Lopetegu’s change to a 4-4-2 helped them expose Liverpool’s defence and capitalise on their mistakes.
