Apple is the company whose GDP crosses that of 80% of the countries of the world. It is best known for its making of iPhones. Apple has several partners across the globe that handle assembling the iPhone devices for those who didn’t know. One such partner is Wistron
The company has been making headlines for what happened in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka’s Indian state. According to sources, there’s been an attack on Wistron’s facility in Bangalore. The attack was by none other than its workers who demanded the payment of unpaid.
Well, Apple is not someone who will take this incident lightly. As such, the iPhone maker has put Wistron on notice for the incident. According to sources, Apple stated that Wistron had violated the “Supplier Code of Conduct,” which Apple upholds in high regards. Wistron didn’t manage the working hours properly, which led to a delay in payment of wages. Even Wistron admits it didn’t pay some workers during October and November on time.
According to sources, Wistron planned to expand operations by hiring 20,000 workers in a year. But it wasn’t able to cope with the increased workforce. The investigation carried out by the Karnataka Govt reveals Wistron had 5,500 workers, more than the allowed number.
Not only that, but the investigation revealed many other violations such as improper HR management, underpayment of wages for contract workers, housekeeping staff. Even the female team were made to work overtime without proper authorization. And that is something Apple doesn’t tolerate.
But even after putting probation on the assembler, Apple will continue to monitor how Wistron manages to mitigate the violent attack, making it lose millions of dollars of property, Gears, and iPhones.
