Disney+ Hotstar faced a short-term outage since the afternoon whereby app users, the desktop site and even the Smart TV application weren’t showing any content. While most thought this to be some technical issue and might solve soon but it took hours to resolve and it’s working again slowly & steadily for most users.

Disney+ Hotstar was down because of a silly mistake

Do you know why there was this temporary outage? Well, don’t get surprised but hotstar.com, the primary site’s domain expired, yes, today their primary domain got expired and they didn’t even realize that.

So, until it was renewed, the outage got bigger as the DNS takes time to propagate and so it’s always advisable to renew domains beforehand. As you see the steaming giant of India runs on AWS, these cloud servers will fail if they cannot connect to the IP address that it is supposed to, rest aside, this was a silly yet major blunder by the team.

Currently, again Disney+ Hotstar is back and you can watch via the website or iOS, still few devices like the TV application is facing problem but these will soon neutralize within a few hours.

CONFIRMED: This was the biggest blunder by Hotstar and now that the issue is resolved, this incident will be a history for both the team and for you as well, so always keep your domain renewed advanced so that this kind of BLUNDER doesn’t happen.
