Enzo Fernandez surely put up competition for the best goal of Argentina’s 2-0 win over Mexico. The youngster scored an absolute peach, curling his shot in from the left wing after being set up by Lionel Messi.

His first-ever World Cup goal helped double Argentina’s lead and earn three extremely valuable points. His performance attracted praise from not only Messi but also the coach and fans.

Fernandez plays as a central midfielder for Portuguese club Benfica, having made the move last summer. He made the switch for €10 million plus €8 million in add-ons, and the deal has proven to be a bargain so far. He became the youngest player to score a goal for Argentina in the World Cup since Messi himself.

The 21-year-old is a graduate of the River Plate academy, and made his debut in 2019. He played on loan at Defensa y Justicia for two years before returning to his boyhood club and winning the title with them. He made his debut for the national team in 2022, in the 3-0 win against Honduras.

Enzo Fernandez also had a great campaign in the Champions League this season, and could be the next big thing to come out of the Portuguese side.
