WhatsApp is preparing to offer a feature similar to what we have on Instagram, which will allow users to add background music to their statuses. So, you’ll be able to pick a song from a curated music library and add it to your status update, letting you share your favorite pieces of music with your connections. The feature is currently only available to a selected few beta users.

WhatsApp to Add Music Integration in Status Updates: Beta Feature Spotted

This will be available in WhatsApp version 2.25.2.5 for Android, but not everyone will get access, at least not yet. According to early testers, and reports from WABetaInfo, the feature works in much the same way as Instagram’s music feature. Each background music track can be added by users when uploading a new status. The music library — which will resemble the one on Instagram and Facebook — will boast a variety of tracks, including popular Bollywood songs, international hits, and music created by YouTube creators.

Even you will have your own library track in the new library, where the popularity will be trending up and the users will be able to select the track matching to what mood they are in. The music will play for as long as the status update itself: 60 seconds maximum for videos, and 15 seconds for photo status. When contacts read the status, the selected music will automatically be triggered. Users can tap the music to see the name of the artist, and even be taken with a tap directly to the artist’s Instagram profile.

Though WhatsApp has not yet announced when the feature will be available to everyone, its rollout in the beta version suggests it could reach the stable version soon, likely in the coming weeks. Interested users can try installing the latest beta version of WhatsApp via the Google Play Store or by downloading it from APKMirror. However, being on the beta version does not guarantee access to this feature.
