WhatsApp: You can now mute individuals in Group Call

WhatsApp introduced a number of new features this week, including the ability to mute others during group calls (via Android Central). This sanity-saving feature looks to be beneficial not only for muting people who refuse to do so, but also if you’re in the same room as someone else on the call and don’t want to hear their remarks repeated.

While certain conferencing tools, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, allow hosts to mute all (or specific) participants, the majority of them do not allow individual users to mute anyone during a session. This feature gives you a whole new level of control, and it’s probably best used for frenetic meetings with up to eight people on video calls or 32 on audio calls.

WhatsApp allows messaging while in Group Call

Some new features for group calls on @WhatsApp: You can now mute or message specific people on a call (great if someone forgets to mute themselves!), and we've added a helpful indicator so you can more easily see when more people join large calls. pic.twitter.com/fxAUCAzrsy

In addition to the new muting tool, WhatsApp also allows you to message specific people while on a group call, which is great if you need to send someone a note or make a joke that might not be received well by the entire group. WhatsApp is also rolling out a new banner that will alert you if someone joins a call after it has already started.

The messaging service is developing more than just its group calling functionality. You may now customize who sees your profile photo, about, and last seen status, which shows when you were last active on WhatsApp, according to WhatsApp.

This may help you keep your profile concealed from professional contacts or anyone else you don’t want to have access to it 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Last year, WhatsApp began hiding your last seen status from outsiders by default, citing potential privacy issues.

Last year, WhatsApp allowed users to transfer their conversation data in the opposite manner (from iPhone to Android), and now Android users can transfer their chat records to iPhone.
