Chelsea recently confirmed the arrival of Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer, with the centre-back making the move from their rivals across the road, Fulham. The Blues have been able to close the deal quickly to hand new manager Enzo Maresca his first signing of the summer, and a direct replacement for Thiago Silva.
But, what will the 26-year-old add to the Chelsea side now that he has officially completed his transfer?
What Tosin Adarabioyo adds to the Chelsea defence that others don’t already
The first and most obvious element is that of his height, with the Englishman standing 1.96m tall. Thiago Silva was 1.81m tall, but still had a towering presence at the back. In Adarabioyo’s case, he has the advantage of being one of the tallest in the squad.
And he makes good use of his height by winning the majority of his aerial battles. This will help Chelsea incredibly well in defending set-pieces, which have left them vulnerable on several occasions.
Tosin Adarabioyo is also very composed with the ball at his feet, and will fit in very well with the style of play Maresca wants – to play out the ball from the back with slow build-up. And not to mention, he already has a couple of years of Premier League experience under his belt, which will surely reduce the time he needs to adapt to his new surroundings.
All in all, this is a great signing for Chelsea, especially considering they didn’t have to pay a massive transfer fee to add to their worrisome spending record.
