The Champions League Round of 16 draw had to be redone completely after ‘technical issues’ almost gave us another edition of Messi vs Ronaldo.
What happened in the original Champions League Ro16 draw?
Manchester United were first drawn against Villarreal in the original draw. This was a mistake since both teams were in the same group, and would not be allowed to face each other again.
After that, Manchester United were left out of the list of teams that could face Atletico Madrid in the knockout stage. They were then drawn up against PSG in the Round of 16.
The redone draw
Now that the Champions League draw has been redone, Manchester United will play Atletico Madrid in the draw. Chelsea’s draw surprisingly remained unchanged, and they go up against Lille. Manchester City have been drawn up against the Portuguese club Sporting CP.
Salzburg have been given the mammoth task of dealing with Bayern Munich in the Round of 16. Villarreal have drawn Juventus while their rivals, Inter Milan, will be facing Liverpool. Ajax and Benfica will square off against each other in a dark-horse battle for a spot in the last 8.
The biggest fixture from the revised group stage now, is PSG vs Real Madrid. Sergio Ramos will face his old club alongside former Real Madrid players Angel Di Maria, Keylor Navas and Achraf Hakimi.
With so many entertaining fixtures to watch, we can be sure that the Round of 16 will be as entertaining as ever.
