Cricket is popular across several nations, and it is considered to be a game of passion and intense emotions among each of those countries. As global cricket fans, whenever we talk about top-performing countries, a few names always pop up in our minds. One such country that has had a huge impact in world cricketing history is the West Indies. The country is very passionate about the game, which is well reflected by their exhilarating spirit. The country does not merely play cricket, the citizens of West Indies love the game from their heart and in fact, live with it.

The emergence of the West Indies cricket team dates back to the 1880s, but their team for the 1970s and 1980s are widely recognized to be one of the greatest teams of all time. During those glorious years, the team was known for its fast bowling attacks. However, by the 1990s and 2000s, the team was on the verge of decline and is now fighting to regain its lost glory.

The T20 match along with the 2007 World Cup played a very significant role in shaping up the upcoming years for this cricket team. Since the advent of the T20 game format, the team has shown varied outcomes, with a few victories and several losses. They have also been beaten ruthlessly sometimes. In 2007, even though West Indies hosted the T20 World Cup event, it performed very poorly which disappointed the fans.

Will West Indies Cricket Be Dominating In The Upcoming Years?

Many cricketing critics believe that the current West Indies team lacks sportsmanship, dedication, and confidence which is required for winning. Some also blame the disputes occurring inside the team for its consistent poor performance. There are further allegations of corruption and bickering, which have also led to a decline in team spirit.

Even with all these downsides, there will always be a ray of hope that shows that the greatness of this legendary team still persists. Emerging new cricketers like Dwayne Bravo, Daren Powell, Jerome Taylor, are considered to be the new pillars of the team. They have immense potential and they are slowly but steadily increasing the team’s playing standards, which will surely lead to glory restoration in the future. They have understood that the team needs ferocious fast bowlers and dependable batsmen to stand out in the world of international cricket.

Former West Indies batter and current national team chief selector Desmond Haynes has said in his latest interview with Betway Insider that team selection matters a lot for success and they’re doing their best to get it right. “I always say that our aim is to select the best players. It doesn’t matter where they come from, it doesn’t matter what format they’re playing. We just want to make sure that when we put a team out there, it’s the best possible team to win that game,” he quoted.

The Caribbeans have won the T20 championships in both 2012 and 2016, which means they have started to pick up on the victories. However, there is still a long way to go and they have to work really hard for everything. Given their previous glory, the team has to now play qualifying matches to get into the 2019 England World Cup series, which is truly sad.

With all the emerging talents, and if the West Indies cricketing board formulates the right talents eliminating all the disputes, then the team does hold great potential. The new players look promising. But they would need to keep their faith and trust in the game to ensure that they are heading in the right direction.
