Manchester City have registered their interest in West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta. The Hammers do not want to sell the Brazilian this summer, but City have made an inquiry into signing the player, who is keen on making the switch to the treble winners.
A verbal discussion worth £70 million has been held between the two clubs, but the amount has been deemed not enough for the player. Pep Guardiola is an avid admirer of the Brazilian and Manchester City will try again to sign the midfielder to strengthen their squad ahead of the coming season.
Manchester City make attempt to sign Lucas Paqueta
The 25-year-old recently picked Roc Nation Brazil as his new agent and is keen on the transfer. He has only spent a year with West Ham United after joining them from Lyon for €43 million. And in his very first year with the club, he won the Europa Conference League.
Paqueta has scored four goals and provided three assists in 28 games for the Hammers in the Premier League. He also scored one goal and provided four assists in eleven Europa Conference League games.
The Brazilian has four years remaining on his deal with West Ham, which means that the club is under no pressure to sell. But, a massive offer from the treble winners might cause them to offload the player even at this stage.
West Ham have already signed James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez to bolster their midfield ahead of the new season. Which means that even if they sell Lucas Paqueta to City, they will have a replacement. But, the club still prefers to keep the Brazilian than sell him to the treble winners.
