West Ham United has recently sold Sebastian Haller to Ajax for £22 million. Haller joined West Ham United in the summer of 2019 for a hefty fee worth £45 million, a club record for the Hammers. And it is safe to say that the move has not gone according to plan for either the player or the club.
The reason West Ham decided to sell Haller to Ajax, according to Moyes: “I think that the Seb Haller situation was simply that we got an offer, we didn’t expect it, we weren’t planning to lose Seb this window.”
“He’s done great for us, he’s won a few games recently with his goals, so we wish him well.”
“I think it’s a really good move for him to go to Ajax and it was something which maybe if we didn’t take this offer now maybe we would not have got it at a later stage, so we just felt it was the right thing to do. But it certainly wasn’t planned.”
Now, the Premier League club is planning to get Mariano Diaz on loan from Real Madrid as a replacement for the outgoing Sebastian Haller. Diaz has found game time very hard to come by at Real Madrid. The 27-year-old has only made six appearances this season and his opportunities in the future will also be rare. So a loan move may suit all the parties.
Moyes also has Luka Jovic on his radar but Mariano is the most likely option. Mariano Diaz is valued at £20m compared to £27m valuation for Serbian international Jovic.
So, West Ham are likely to decide in favour of Mariano Diaz and would like to sign him on loan at first. This loan move would also give him an opportunity to get first-team minutes and take his career back on track.
