Wesley Fofana has signed a new contract with Leicester City that will keep him at the club until 2027. The young centre-back has established himself as one of the best talents in the Premier League, and has committed his future to the Foxes.
Clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United were keeping an eye on the talented defender for a potential move. But with him signing a new deal with Leicester, all chances of a bigger club swooping in have been done away with.
Wesley Fofana signs new deal with Leicester
‘It just brings the team to a new dimension,’ said Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers. ‘This is a top player, no question. I’ve got absolutely no doubt in this boy’.
‘You watch the top level of the game and players have devilment. They can be the nicest guys in the world but on the field they have an edge, and Wesley has that. Like Jamie Vardy, he has no respect on the field – in the nicest possible way.
‘It was a massive loss for us when he got injured. The other guys have filled in manfully and done the best they can, but you’ve seen what happens to a team like Liverpool when they are missing Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip.
‘When we are missing Jamie Vardy and two centre-halves like Jonny [Evans] and Wesley, with all due respect to a club like us, that’s a big difference.’
Alongside James Justin, Wesley Fofana has become the second youngster to receive a new contract from Leicester this season. After suffering from a broken leg in pre-season, Fofana has been unable to make a single appearance yet. But, he could be in line for a return in the game against Rennes in the Europa Conference League.
