Polish developer Rebel Wolves has officially revealed its first project, The Blood of Dawnwalker, a single-player open-world RPG. Fans were given a closer look at the game during a live event, including a gorgeous CGI trailer and a quick glimpse of in-game footage. Established three years ago by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who directed The Witcher III: Wild Hunt students at the studio were funded by outbreaks of NetEase and a publishing arrangement with Bandai Namco for the title.
The Blood of Dawnwalker draws a lot from The Witcher III but it has its own spin on it. Taking place in 14th-century fictional Vale Lenora in Carpathia, this dark fantasy game features magic and supernatural elements. The story starts in the Black Plague, when a powerful coven led by Brencis overthrew feudal lords and took the region under its control, promising safety in exchange for human blood sacrifices.
The trailer shows the protagonist Coen meet the vampires for the first time. Just before the infected sister is executed by fire, the vampires intervene, slaughtering the lords and rescuing her by feeding her their blood (without turning her into a vampire). The game is set two years later, with Coen now a hybrid, weakened by silver poisoning yet still capable of walking among humans.
The Blood of Dawnwalker features a day-night cycle, where Coen fights like a human by day and utilizes vampire powers by night to combat various supernatural threats. Players will be able to form alliances or make enemies with other characters, with the main goal being to defeat Brencis and free Coenβs family. However, Coen has only 30 days and nights to succeed, and blood hunger will also be a constant challenge. This Unreal Engine 5-powered game will be fully revealed in the summer and will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
