Warren Zaire-Emery recently became the youngest player to ever start a Champions League knockout game at the age of 16 years and 343 days. The youngster was named in the starting line-up for PSG against Bayern Munich in their recent Round of 16 first leg clash.
He played 57 minutes before being subbed off, and has attracted a lot of praise so far. So much so that he is expected to be the next big thing in football when he develops further.
Who is PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery?
The youngster has risen through the PSG academy, and has been with them since the age of 8. He is currently under contract with the Parisians, having signed his first professional deal in 2022 after he won the Under-17 European Championship with France. His current deal is set to run out in 2025.
Apart from being the youngest player to start a Champions League knockout game, Warren Zaire-Emery is also PSG’s youngest-ever Ligue 1 starter (16 years, 4 months, and 29 days) and their youngest-ever goalscorer (16 years, 10 months and 24 days).
Emery has attracted comparisons to Wayne Rooney, who also had a burst at a young age. The PSG number 33 faces stiff competition to break into the front three. But, he could be an important choice for the coming years since Christophe Galtier rates him highly.
