Vivo has officially started teasing the X Fold 5 in China, emphasizing its ultra-slim design. When unfolded, this foldable phone is even thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro. However, slimness isn’t the only standout feature. Vivo has also indicated that the X Fold 5 is going to become the first foldable phone on the market equipped with triple-proof protection, which is against water, dust, and drops.

Vivo X Fold 5 Unveils Ultra-Thin Foldable Design with Industry-First Triple-Proof Water, Dust & Drop Resistance

The product has an IP5X dust-resistant rating. Now, compared to the model from last year that didn’t have a dust rating of any kind, X Fold 5 offers the highest level of dust protection on today’s market. When it comes to water resistance, the phone is rated IPX8, and that means you can survive a dunk in water that is 3 meters deep, twice as deep as Samsung’s claimed depth for the Z Fold 6, which is rated for 1.5 meters.

Additionally, the X Fold 5 features an IPX9 rating to protect against high-pressure water jets and even an IPX9+ rating for underwater folding. Vivo claims the foldable can be opened and closed 1,000 times while submerged at a depth of 1 meter.

Regarding specifications, the foldable is expected to feature a 6.53-inch LTPO outer display and a large 8.03-inch 2K+ AMOLED inner screen, both supporting 120Hz refresh rates. It will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, coupled with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

The device will run on a 6,000mAh battery with support for 90W wired charging and 30W wireless charging. For selfies, both the cover and inner displays are said to house 32-megapixel front cameras. On the back, the X Fold 5 will feature a Zeiss-tuned triple camera setup, including a 50MP Sony IMX921 primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP periscope lens with 3x optical zoom.
