Virgil Van Dijk and the Netherlands were recently eliminated from Euro 2024 at the semifinal stage, with England striking late to win the game. The Liverpool defender lamented his end to the season, with a spirited Oranje side leaving empty handed.
The season has been difficult to take at the club level as well, since Jurgen Klopp left his role as the manager of Liverpool. And while Van Dijk previously admitted that he wants to stay and be a part of the transition season, he has now said that he needs time to recover and evaluate his options.

The Netherlands were one of the top performers in Euro 2024 and were the favourites for many to make it to the final. But, it was a heartbreaking goal from Ollie Watkins in the 90th minute that earned England a spot in the final instead.
Virgil Van Dijk commented that the Aston Villa striker was perhaps given too much space, and that his finishing was absolutely top notch to score from a tight angle. He also pointed out the controversial penalty that England were awarded in the first half, that proved to be a vital point in the game.
