In the age of social media, misinformation can spread like wildfire, often leaving truth in its wake. Recently, a sensational story about renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal and other Indian celebrities allegedly being detained for revealing confidential economic information took the internet by storm. However, as the dust settles, it’s time to separate fact from fiction and uncover the truth behind this viral hoax.

 Shreya Ghoshal

The story began when social media users shared screenshots of a purported article from The Indian Express, claiming that fans were advocating for Shreya Ghoshal’s release following a controversial interview. The post, captioned “The Nation Reacts – How Do You Feel About It?” quickly gained traction, sparking heated discussions across various platforms.

    • Q: Were other celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar also involved in this incident?

First and foremost, The Indian Express never published such an article. A thorough investigation revealed that the viral screenshot was entirely fake, with no trace of the alleged story on the publication’s website or any other credible news source. In fact, The Indian Express itself issued a public warning, urging readers to be cautious of fake web pages impersonating their platform.

The hoax didn’t stop at Shreya Ghoshal. Similar false claims were made about other prominent Indian celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Neha Kakkar, and Sadhguru, alleging they too had been detained for disclosing sensitive information. These claims are equally baseless and have been thoroughly debunked.

Shreya Ghoshal Controversy

The fabricated story claimed that Shreya Ghoshal had accidentally revealed an additional source of income during a broadcast of the program “Mirchi Plus.” It further alleged that authorities were concerned this disclosure could lead to mass layoffs by exposing income disparities. However, a review of the entire interview available on Mirchi Plus’s official YouTube channel found no such conversation took place.

Conclusion

It’s worth noting that Shreya Ghoshal’s X (formerly Twitter) account was indeed hacked on February 13, 2025, as confirmed by the singer herself on Instagram. This security breach may have contributed to the spread of misinformation, as scammers potentially exploited her compromised account to lend credibility to their false narratives.

In light of this incident, Sandeep Mittal, additional director general of police, cyber crime wing, Tamil Nadu, issued a warning on X about verified handles with few followers promoting ads featuring Shreya Ghoshal, describing them as “scam traps to lure public into cyber scams.”

In conclusion, the viral story about Shreya Ghoshal and other celebrities being detained for leaking economic secrets is entirely false. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of digital literacy and critical thinking in our increasingly connected world. As we navigate the vast sea of information online, let’s commit to being responsible digital citizens, verifying facts before sharing, and helping to stem the tide of misinformation.
