Quique Setien became the first head coach to be sacked in Europe’s top five leagues after Villarreal’s disappointing start to the La Liga season. The team suffered three defeats and only won one game, and the hierarchy decided to pull the trigger on the manager and replace him.
Real Madrid Castilla manager Raul had been linked with the role, with reports going as far as to say that the club were informed by him and his staff. But, it seems like the former icon could end up staying exactly where he is.
Villarreal new manager: Raul to stay at Castilla with Pacheta to joinÂ
Former Real Valladolid manager Pacheta is in talks with Villarreal to become their new manager. He was relieved of his duties at the end of the 22/23 season and has been without a job since. He could now make his return to management with Villarreal interested in signing him.Â
Raul was reportedly interested in the Villarreal projects but the prospect of managing the first team next season perhaps convinced him to stay. Carlo Ancelotti is expected to move on to the Brazilian national team next season, which would open up the spot for Raul to step in.Â
It will be interesting to see how Pacheta takes to the role at the Yellow Submarine, with it being his biggest club till date.Â
