May has historically been a slow month for video game releases and announcements. This is because many developers tend to postpone major releases until E3, which is usually held next month. However, we have some interesting video game releases planned for this time. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a sequel to the critically acclaimed Breath of the Wild, will be released by Nintendo.
Amnesia: The Bunker, the latest installment in the horror series, will be released this month. If you prefer story-driven action video games, the release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum may be just what the doctor ordered.
So here are the most anticipated video game coming in May 2023: —
- Redfall (Xbox Series X/S, PC) – May 2
- Age of Wonders 4 (PC, Xbox Series X/S, PC) – May 2
- Hogwarts Legacy (PS4, Xbox One) – May 5

There aren’t many AAA video games with a May 2023 release date, but gamers, particularly Nintendo Switch owners, won’t need too many, as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will undoubtedly consume a lot of playtimes. And even if you’re not a Zelda fan, there’s plenty to look forward to, including a new LEGO game and a Lord of the Rings title starring Gollum.
