Victor Osimhen has now surpassed George Weah as the top scorer from Africa in Serie A. The Napoli number 9 scored the match-winning goal against Fiorentina from the penalty spot to make it 23 goals for him this season.

And in the process, he has overtaken the former Ballon d’Or winner, with his 47th goal in the league. Weah managed to score 46 in 114 games, while Osimhen has surpassed his tally in 79 games. The forward has been extremely clinical this season, and has helped the Azzurri to their third-ever league title.

Victor Osimhen sets new Serie A record

The 24-year-old has been deadly all season, and is en route to winning the Capocannoniere trophy for being the top scorer in the league this season. He has four more goals than Lautaro Martinez in second place, and looks set to finish with the league title and the top scorer award.

He also led the team to a Champions League quarter final against AC Milan. His absence was strongly felt as Napoli lost the first leg, and in spite of him scoring in the second, they were eliminated by the finest of margins.

In light of his eye-catching form, Victor Osimhen has attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Manchester United for a transfer this summer. But, Napoli are determined not to let him go, and want to keep him for another season in spite of the opportunity to earn a huge sum from his sale.
